It's Friday!!! This past week has been such a blur. Here is a super shortened re-cap:
Monday:
My last lupron injection, last dexamethasone pill (steroid) and at exactly 9:45 pm I got my HCG intramuscular injection to the buttocks. (Buttocks is such a strange word...try saying it over and over again 20 times, it starts sounding weird. Let's use gluteal muscle. Ok I think I need to eat soon, getting loopy.) It's amazing that in vitro docs and nurses can pinpoint a time (9:45 pm), at which to get the shot, so that come Wed morning (~8:45 am) my eggs were ready to be retrieved.
Tuesday:
First day in awhile of absolutely no shots! Needed to stop eating and drinking at midnight. So, Bear took me out with our friends Keoni, Kristi, and their son Noah to Nordstrom for dinner and then Yami Yogurt for dessert. I love eating at Nordstrom's Marketplace Cafe! The only Nordstrom I was disappointed with was Southcenter Mall's one, maybe they'll rennovate or they already have, but it was very uneventful there.
Wednesday:
Got up at 5:30 am and caught a ride with mom to work. Bear's procedure was first and he didn't need to change into anything he just left the room and the next time I saw him, he was lying on his back a little nauseous. Poor Bear. They had to slice into his (sorry to be so crass) sack and then do a biopsy. They good news was there was a lot of specimen! They always give us a pamphlet a week before the procedure for the sperm donor option, just in case they can't find any and we usually just take our chances. It worked out again =).
I briefly spoke with his urologist and then it was a go for me. I got into my gown, booties, and hair net. I couldn't put any make-up, lotion, or wear contacts that day. They don't want to take chances with foreign/harmful particles getting near the eggs.
The anesthesiologist was really nice, some Asian guy who was very gentle and funny. He told me no alcohol that day, but I could have some the next day! He put the IV in and then started with the anesthesia, I don't remember much after that. My doctor says I started talking again and they gave me more and then I was out. I was muttering something during the procedure my doctor thinks it was KFC because I was craving fried chicken. I came to when they were done and then they led me out to a recovery room, I couldn't remember how I got there! Jerm was waiting in there. Poor guy had to sit on a small chair with his lets splayed shifting every once in awhile. That is why we decided to freeze some of his swimmers, so he doesn't have to do that again. They were able to get 15 eggs. Not all were mature, though. But, it was still 6 more than last time.
By 11:30 am we were ready to go home and my dad picked us up. My mom had made a special trip home during lunch to get us some yummy vegetable soup. We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening on the pull out bed of the sofa watching The Pursuit of Happyness & Seven Pounds. It was a Wil Smith day. Both were really good movies.
Thursday:
Spent the day taking it easy. I went to Longs to get more meds for embryo transplant prep. Jerm came with just to get out of the house. We had to wait 40 minutes for the prescription so we walked around the mall. Mistake! Jerm kind of over did it and by the end of 40 minutes he was sore! Doctor called and said they were able to fertilize 10 eggs! Yay!!!! Last time only 2 fertilized!
Today:
Started progesterone intramuscular shot to gluteal and estradiol patches. I took Ollie for a long morning walk. I'm still kind of bloated from the procedure and drugs. I still go to the bathroom about 4 times during the middle of the night to early morning, but we are recovering well!
Tomorrow:
We are on call to see how the embryos are doing. We may do transfer tomorrow, Sunday, or Monday.
